BBC heads come in rectangular port, oval port, and truck small 'peanut' oval ports... the 366 is a truck only engine, so surprised it would have heads with bigger ports than a 454 engine... sounds like some previous swapping of heads has occurred... even the peanut ports are big compared to SBC ...I have a silver diamond truck head with big valves and roller rockers.I am looking for around 340 to 360 cubic inch motor that is on a budget.I was going to bore it to 3 15/16 and wondering what is a good reliable piston. I was told a chevy 366 piston works good ,but not sure.big block chevy valve adjustment trouble,no compression. i just put new headgaskets and vakve job on a 366 big block truck motor.i adjusted the valves with engine off.i made sure they were on the base circle then sping the pushrod until it drags then tighten 1\2 turn.when i set them this way it holds the valves open and i have no compression.if ... ….

With the ones we had, the 366 was the better engine. 427's had more problems, took a couple out, replaced them with 366's. 427 is apparently basically the same engine, just bored out. The thinner cylinder walls had cracking issues at times.
